4 Tips to Keep Your Swimming Pool Clean

Pool Repair Companies

There are several compelling reasons to clean your pool regularly. Regular pool cleaning can keep your pool equipment in top shape and increase your pool’s lifespan. Periodic pool cleaning saves you money on repair and headaches in the long run and allows it to operate efficiently. It reduces the risk of bacterial contamination.

Here are some ways to keep your pool clean all year round.

Use a Pool Cover

Removing fine dust, sand and debris from a pool is a backbreaking work. It is a time consuming exercise. A pool cover can help simplify pool cleaning by keeping leaves, branches, stones, and other debris from making their way into your pool.

It can also help retain heat helping you cut pool heating costs. Covering your pool when not in use is a great way to keep wildlife away from it. If you have pets or kids, a safety pool cover can help ensure their safety by preventing them from falling into the water.

Check Your Pool Water Regularly

Improperly balanced pool water can cause a whole host of problems ranging from scaling to corrosion. It irritates the eyes and skin, looks murky and can cause algae growth. Even if your pool looks crystal clear, test its water’s pH and chlorine levels once or twice a week. Also measure calcium hardness and pool alkalinity. Before adding chemicals to correct a chemical imbalance, consult a professional.

Keep Your Filter Clean

Your pool filter is responsible for keeping your pool water clean by catching debris. Over time, pool filters become clogged with dirt, dust and debris. An unclean, clogged filter can affect water flow and lead to cloudy water. Check your filter regularly to make sure it is not clogged.

Follow these steps to clean your pool filter:

➢ Turn off the pump and depressurize the filter tank. Turn on the air relief valve to remove any excess air from the system.

➢ Remove the clamps holding the filter, the top of the filter and finally the cartridge. Set the cartridge aside and inspect it for damage and wear. If the cartridge is damaged beyond repair or is too dirty, replace it.

➢ Clean the cartridge with a spray nozzle on your garden hose. Make sure to get between the pleats. If the cartridge filter has become clogged with contaminants such as algae, sunscreen and iron, leave the cartridge in a filter cleaning solution overnight.

➢ Secure the cartridge in place. Turn the system back on.

Skim Your Pool Regularly

Even if you use a pool cover, tiny bits of debris can find their way into your pool. Use a hand skimmer or leaf skimmer to remove leaves and other debris from your pool at least once a day.
